Israeli modern rock maestros Orphaned Land say they are going to become Turkish. The band, whose sound blends metal riffs with Jewish and Arab music says it has fans across the Arab world, particularly in Turkey. Music afficionados in the Turkish capital Ankara have recognized the band's attempt to use their melodies to bridge a gap in relations between Israel and Turkey which has been widening since the killing of 9 Turkish citizens aboard a Gaza Strip-bound aid ship in 2010, bestowing Orphaned Land with a Peace and Friendship Award. The band's website said it was hoped Orphaned Land would receive official Turkish citizenship in time for their next show in the country they consider their second home, due to take place in September.
