Last year, a harsh massacre took place in the settlement of Itamar, in which 2 Palestinian terrorists broke into the home of the Jewish Fogel family, murdered both parents, and 3 of their children in cold blood. The terrorists were caught, and while taking pride of their actions, they were indicted on five counts of murder. Now the Israeli Shin Bet has recommended to Israel's defense minister to demolish their families' homes in the West Bank, as a deterring measure. This would not be the first time for such a recommendation and for these kinds of measures to be taken against the families of terrorists.
While Israelis seem undecided about this matter, the Shin Bet claims that destroying the houses would discourage Palestinian families from giving refuge to members of their family who are involved in terrorism. In the case of the Itamar murders, it appears that the families of the terrorists assisted them in hiding weapons and covering up evidence. In the next few weeks, a meeting on this matter will take place with Defense Ministry and IDF officials at the Attorney General's office.
