A group of American Holocaust survivors has attacked major Jewish organizations for opposing a proposed law to enable them to take outstanding life insurance claims to court. The Jewish organizations, including the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), B'Nai B'rith International, the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany and the American Jewish Committee recommend that survivors use existing claims procedures agreed upon with the insurance companies. But the Holocaust Survivors Foundation USA says existing mechanisms have failed them. Florida Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen has authored a bill which would ease access to the US courts and require the disclosure of documents from European insurers.
